Two ways to get the same free app. Choose the one that fits how you like to run software.
Windows Installer
The usual way to install an app. It sets itself up in your user profile and can install future updates from inside MoniTweak.

Portable ZIP
No installation at all. Unzip it wherever you want and run MoniTweak.exe from that folder.
- Runs from any folder, including a USB stick
- Tells you when a new version is out
- Delete the folder to remove the app
Installer or portable
Both give you the same app and keep their settings in the same place. The difference is how they get installed and updated.

Either way, removing MoniTweak leaves that settings folder behind. Delete it yourself if you want nothing left.

Verify what you downloaded
Every release publishes a SHA256SUMS.txt next to the installer and the ZIP. Open a terminal in your Downloads folder and run:
CertUtil -hashfile <downloaded file> SHA256
Compare the result with the matching line in the checksum file. If they match, you have exactly the file we published.

MoniTweak is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC” the first time you run a new release.
SmartScreen builds its reputation per file, and that reputation resets with every new version. Because MoniTweak ships often, the warning can come back even if you did not see it last time.
To continue, click More info, then Run anyway. If you would rather check first, compare the file hash with SHA256SUMS.txt using the command above. That tells you the file is exactly what we published, whatever SmartScreen says about it. Microsoft explains the reputation system in its own documentation.
